First ScotRail has launched all-inclusive bargain rail and entry
packages for the RAF Leuchars Airshow on Saturday 9 September.
The offers, combined with extra trains, are designed to encourage
more visitors to the show while leaving cars at home. The tickets
include return rail travel from all stations to Leuchars station,
and entry to the show. One package, if purchased in advance rather
than on the day, will save adults £3 on the entrance fee.
Customers travelling with children can take advantage of a Family
Funday ticket, allowing up to four children aged five to 15 to travel
free - from any station in Scotland to Leuchars - before purchasing
the advance discounted Airshow Family ticket on arrival.
Steve Montgomery, First ScotRails operations director, urged
people to take the train and save time by purchasing the all inclusive
package which is available to 9 September. He said: Roads round
and about the event can get very busy and congestion is possible,
due to the ever increasing popularity of the airshow. We are
offering a practical, value for money alternative to taking the car.
With discounted tickets and additional services, visitors can leave
their cars at home and travel to the event in comfort.
The UK's premier fighter station will open its gates at 08.00, with
the flying display running from 10.00 to 17.00. A simulated airfield
attack, a highlight at last year's airshow, will again demonstrate
the operational capability of the Royal Air Force, and the display
will also feature many of the aircraft flown by the Leuchars based
43(F) and 56(R) Squadrons celebrating their 90th anniversary
this year.
