First Capital Connect to invest £2m in fleet

First Capital Connect has announced a £2m investment in its fleet of trains that operate on the Great Northern route*.

The money will be spent on improvements to the interiors of all trains** . In particular, the work will focus on upgrading the seating and flooring.

Elaine Holt, Managing Director, First Capital Connect, said: “Whilst reliability is good on this route, we recognise that our fleet would benefit from an upgrade to further improve the journey experience of our customers. This £2m investment is in addition to the investments we have so far outlined for the franchise and demonstrates our commitment to ensure our trains meet the needs of our customers.”

The work will be co-ordinated at First Capital Connect’s Hornsey depot, starting in March. It will take a week to complete each train and all work will be finished by the end of 2007.

* The Great Northern route operates from King’s Cross and Moorgate via Stevenage/Hertford North to Peterborough, Cambridge, and King’s Lynn.
** Three Classes of train operate on this route – Class 365, 313 and 317.
