'Oxfordshire 2007' takes to the rails with a 2+1 passenger train

First Great Western powercar No. 43198 was named Oxfordshire 2007 in a ceremony at a snowy Oxford station on 9 February 2007 hosted by FGW Customer Services Director Glenda Lamont. This years will see a number of celebrations marking the 1,000th year of Oxfordshire, and First Great Western are a sponsor to these events.

The naming was undertaken by the Chairman of Oxfordshire County Council Lesley Legge and the Lord Mayor of Oxford Jim Campbell. After the unveiling, No. 43198 formed as a 2+1 passenger formation together with TGS 44059 and unrefurbished powercar No. 43031 as the 11.30 special from Oxford to Didcot, where guests were met by the Mayor of Didcot Mike McNulty and tank engine No. 4144 from the Didcot Railway Centre.

Full credit for the pristine condition of powercar No. 43198 must be given to FGW as yesterday the vehicle was covered in graffiti by vandals at Bristol and management and depot staff worked till late last evening restoring the vehicle to a condition suitable for naming.

No. 43198 was previously named HMS Penzance.
