In the March 2007 Informed Sources (published in Modern Railways magazine) Roger Ford launches a campaign to get a rolling programme of main line electrification back on the agenda.

To give the campaign some political clout, a petition to the Prime Minister has been posted on the No 10 website ( http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/Electrify/ ). The PM might not take any notice, but if we can get enough signatures it demonstrates the level of interest within the railway.

A petition against road pricing generated over half a million signatures – to get to second place in the transport lift we need 5,000 by the closing date for signatures in July when the HLOS and SoFA are published.
