Eurotunnel has announced that it has purchased five of the long stored Eurostar UK Class 92s presently at Crewe Electric depot.

The locos are from the batch 92020, 92021, 92032, 92040, 92044, 92045, and 92046, but details of the actual locos concerned has not been released.

Eurotunnel said in a statement "that in line with development policy the company has acquired five Class 92 locomotives for EUR2.9 million following a tender offer launched by Eurostar UK. The Class 92 locomotives are Tunnel compliant. This investment demonstrates Eurotunnel's desire to develop cross-Channel rail freight and to make the most of its know how in the sector through its subsidiary, Europorte 2".
