More information released on Class 395 'Javelin'

The 29 Hitachi 'A' Train six-car 'Javelin' units classified as 395 for UK operation are now nearing completion in Japan. The sets are for use on domestic services between Kent and London using the new CTRL route. More information has been released about the trains.

Each six car set with be formed Driving Pantograph Trailer Standard1 (DTPS1), Motor Standard 1 (MS1), Motor Standard 2 (MS2), Motor Standard 3 (MS3), Motor Standard 4 (MS4), Driving Pantograph Trailer Standard 2 (DTPS2). Seats will be provided in a 2+2 mode for 354 standard class travellers. Each passenger vehicle is 20m long and 2.81m wide. Sets will be fitted to operate on 25kv ac overhead from both the Network Rail and CTRL system, plus 750V dc third rail. CTRL style TVM430 cab-signalling will be installed as will Network Rail TPWS and AWS.

Up to two sets will be authorised to operate in multiple, providing a total space for 1,016 passengers (standing/seated).

Hitachi have said the first complete train will arrive in the UK for testing in mid 2007.
