An integrated ticketing scheme covering the whole of Britain which
makes bus and train travel cheaper and more convenient has arrived
in Cambridge.
one railway, which operates Cambridge station, is part
of the PLUSBUS scheme, offering customers the opportunity to buy tickets
for train travel and unlimited bus journeys in Cambridge in a single
transaction.
Cambridge has joined other large towns and cities in becoming part
of the scheme whereby PLUSBUS tickets can be added to any train fare
to or from Cambridge and costs just £2.70 for one days
unlimited bus travel.
Theo Steel, Sales & Marketing Director for one said:
The PLUSBUS scheme makes it easier and cheaper to make joined
up bus and rail journeys, allowing customers to leave their cars at
home, get to or from the station and travel as much as they want by
bus in the area. It will make integrated transport a reality for many
more people in Cambridge.
PLUSBUS is operated by Journey Solutions, a public transport initiative
funded by the UKs major bus and train operators including one
railways parent company, National Express. It is also supported
by the UK Government. It is now available in more than 200 areas,
including virtually every town and city in Britain with a population
of more than 100,000.
Jonathan Radley, Journey Solutions Commercial Director said:
PLUSBUS is already proving immensely popular, and for good reason.
Whether you buy your train travel from a staffed station or over the
phone, you can add PLUSBUS at the same time. There are additional
discounts for Railcard holders, no peak restrictions on the bus travel,
and no need to carry spare change for bus fares or parking.
The PLUSBUS scheme is designed to support Government policies on integration
by making public transport more accessible and simpler to use. It
is also aimed at reducing the environmental impact of private car
use by encouraging train travellers to hop on their bus to and from
the train station and make their whole journey by public transport.
