Electro Diesel No. 73133 arrives at Taunton

Preserved Class 73/1 No. 73133 which has recently been at the Pontypool & Blaenavon, arrived at Fairwater Yard, Taunton on 20 January to take up yard shunting work under a three year contract for Network Rail. The loco, which has one end modified with group standard lights from its days with Mainline Freight, will be used to shunting vehicles into and out of the High Output Ballast Cleaning (HOBC) and Track renewal Train (TRT). The loco is not authorised to operate outside the confines of Fairwater yard.

Driving of the loco will be undertaken by site staff and training will be carried out during February.

If all goes to plan a second loco could be hired for Taunton shunting later in the year.

After offloading at Fairwater Yard, Taunton No. 73133 poses in the yard, showing its modified three window end and group standard light groups. Brian Garett (with permission of Network Rail)
