'one' railway to extend availability of Oyster PAYG cards

‘one’, the train operator serving destinations from London Liverpool Street (including North and East London, East Anglia and the East of England) is to extend the availability of Oyster Pay As You Go (PAYG), in conjunction with Transport for London (TfL).

From Spring 2008, Oyster PAYG – already available between Liverpool Street and Stratford, Seven Sisters, Tottenham Hale and Walthamstow Central, will be extended to include intermediate stations including Bethnal Green, Cambridge Heath, London Fields, Hackney Downs, Clapton, St. James Street, Rectory Road, Stoke Newington and Stamford Hill, plus Wood Street, Highams Park and Chingford, subject to the delivery of the relevant equipment and final agreement over implementation plans.

Plans are also being developed to further extend availability out to Enfield Town, Turkey Street and Enfield Lock (on the West Anglia routes) and to Harold Wood (on the Metro route towards Shenfield) from Spring 2009.

Commenting on this positive development ‘one’ Managing Director Andrew Chivers said : “We have accepted Oyster pre-pay on ‘one’ since January 2005 between London Liverpool Street and Stratford, Seven Sisters, Tottenham Hale and Walthamstow Central. We have now agreed with TfL to extend Oyster pre-pay to all intermediate stations and beyond Walthamstow to Chingford by Spring 2008. We then look forward to widening availability as far out as Enfield Town, Turkey Street, Enfield Lock and Harold Wood, the following year.

As well as investment from TfL, this initiative will see investment from ‘one’ in the new systems required to operate Oyster PAYG and the additional operating costs (including the maintenance of the validators).

We know that the convenience and integrated travel options that Oyster PAYG offers are helpful to our customers, so we’re pleased to be able to announce these plans to make their journeys easier.“
