Improvements at Camborne officially open

Major improvements to Camborne station will be officially unveiled in a ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday 27 March.

This is the first phase of a £340k improvement scheme, which has concentrated on the station building to platform 2. The development offers welcome improvements for customers and staff, by delivering ‘Access for All’ with automatic doors to the new heated concourse and waiting room; a new toilet suite; new ticket area and improved staff accommodation.

Julian Crow, First Great Western Regional Manager, West: said “This development enhances customers’ experience of Camborne Station as a gateway to the town, which, with its industrial heritage, has an important status as a world heritage site.

The station has also benefited from the Cornwall Rail Forums, Riviera Project, which has delivered much needed improvements to this West Cornwall station. The Forum is a partnership of local stakeholders with a proven record for delivery of integrated transport schemes.

This first phase of the development is designed by Robert Allen Architects of St Ives and delivered by local builders J & E Regan. The improvements were delivered on time and to budget.

Phase 2, due for implementation in financial year 07/08, will offer improved car, cycle and motor cycle parking and a new look station forecourt layout.
