GB Railfreight win extension to Serco contract

GB Railfreight (GBRf) has won a 27-month extension to their route conducting contract with Serco Rail Operations (SRO).

The new contract agreement, which runs until 31 March 2009, states that GBRf will supply SRO with route conductor drivers who will provide route knowledge on the railgrinding and infrastructure monitoring services SRO operate on behalf of Network Rail. There is scope to extend this route conductor supply as SRO expands into delivering other services.

GBRf will provide SRO with more than double the previous volume of route conductor shifts per annum and there will be an increase in the number of contracted routes. The deal is a significant step for GBRfs growing business.

Phil Amos, GBRf’s Business Development Manager said; “We are delighted to have secured this new deal, particularly with the scope to add further routes and a possibility of work in non-contracted areas. With support from customers like this our business will continue to grow very quickly.”

Nick Leigh, Planning & Performance Director at SRO said; “It has been good to work with GBRf who have been complementing our national route coverage plan. It clearly affirms GBRfs capability and is a clear demonstration of their continuing success. They are an asset essential in delivering SRO’s service to our clients.”
