More Police for Chiltern

Chiltern Railways have increased the presence of the British Transport Police at their stations because safety remains their number one priority.

The team consist of a small group of police officers and community support officers and will be based at London Marylebone.  The team will police the line up to Bicester North and concentrate on any areas with a high level of crime or anti-social behaviour.

The team hope their visibility will help prevent crime and disorder and also become a single point of contact for passengers, staff and the community around the railway.

John Davidson, Business Planning Assistant said:  "We hope this partnership with Chiltern Railways and the British Transport Police will deter crime and give our staff and passengers a greater sense of security."

This is an initiative in line with the Home Office's Safer Neighbourhood Team Programme in 2003.  Before this, the British Transport Police resources for Marylebone were shared with Paddington and meant that officers were often tied up with problems.

Steve Betts, Western Sector Commander for the British Transport Police said:   "This scheme has been done to provide Chiltern Railways with a team to integrate and build relationships with the staff and the passengers. Our officers will have the advantage of knowing the community and will be dedicated to the local issues and local problems."

The British Transport Police are also looking to recruit one more community support officer.  This will mean Marylebone will soon have two police officers and three community police officers with a sergeant to oversee them in Paddington.
