Esk Valley tracks renewed

Passengers on the Esk Valley line will benefit from smoother and quieter journeys once Network Rail completes track renewals between Kildale and Commondale.

Almost 2,000 yards of track are being replaced with continuously welded rail at a cost of £1.1m.

Neil Henry, area general manager for Network Rail, said: “This is a big investment and forms part of the ongoing commitment we have to maintain the Middlesbrough to Whitby route and the community rail partnership. This scheme will have long-term benefits for everyone who uses the line. Passengers will notice a smoother, quieter ride as jointed track is replaced with continuous lengths of rail, there will be less wear and tear on the trains and the new track.”

During the work, just over a mile of track and its sleepers will be replaced. The main work will be carried out at the weekends from 10 November to 4 December. No rail services will be affected as trains do not run in the hours that the work will be completed.
