More Strathclyde services this festive season

First ScotRail will run extra Sunday services to and from Glasgow in the run up to Christmas.

The trains will be on most routes across Strathclyde – including five which have no Sunday services at present: Anniesland, Bishopbriggs, Whifflet, Shotts and the Paisley Canal Line.

The extra Sunday services will also extend to Ardrossan, Ayr, Croy, Cumbernauld, Dalmuir, Gourock, Lenzie, Springburn, and Weymss Bay.

There will be around 90 more services each Sunday from 3 December, bringing considerable rail benefits to customers during the festive season.

In addition, from Saturday 18 November many weekend services in Strathclyde will have more carriages for customers heading to Glasgow for Christmas shopping or to visit family and friends.

Trains will also be strengthened on a number of Edinburgh-Glasgow, Bathgate, Perth and Stirling services on Friday or Saturday nights.

Peter Williams, First ScotRail’s commercial director, said: “We are delighted to have built a robust Christmas timetable which will bring considerable benefits to customers. “It includes a number of routes that do not currently have a Sunday service, and it is expected that many of our customers will take advantage of the additional trains.”

Ivor Jones, ScotRail Franchise Manager from Transport Scotland said: “We’re committed to working with First ScotRail to improve services for passengers. These extra Sunday services included in the franchise will give people more transport choice as they look to travel to Glasgow in the run up to Christmas.”

The extra Sunday services will run on December 3, 10, 17 and 24.

A leaflet with details of the additional Christmas services will be available at staffed stations from 15 November and on the First ScotRail website www.firstscotrail.com
