Boost for late night trains in Scotland

First ScotRail is to run extra late night services on 18 routes out of Glasgow Central on Friday nights.

The new services span Ayrshire, Dunbartonshire, Lanarkshire and Renfrewshire as well as the city itself, outlying areas and also Livingston.

The trains will depart the city just before or after midnight, allowing customers extra time in Glasgow. The latest expansions to services are included in First ScotRail's winter timetable which comes into effect on Sunday 10 December.

Mary Dickson, First ScotRail's managing director, said: "We are confident that these enhancements to the winter timetable will have a positive effect on the quality of service we provide for our customers."

The extra late night services range from Glasgow to Anniesland, Ardrossan, Balloch, East Kilbride, Kilmarnock, Lanark and Largs.The Cathcart Circle is also covered, along with Milngavie, Motherwell, Paisley Canal, Springburn and Whifflet, among others.

The winter timetable will also see the 07.09 Arrochar & Tarbet-Glasgow Queen Street now call additionally at Maryhill and Possilpark & Parkhouse. There will be some minor retimings to morning peak services on the East Kilbride route, designed to improve the punctuality of services.
