Chiltern Railways is listening to their passengers and responding
with a proposed £309, 000 investment to improve station facilities
across a number of their staffed stations with Gerrards Cross being
the first.
Passengers at Gerrards Cross will benefit from a refurbishment of
the majority of the station with a primary focus on the platform areas,
the booking hall and waiting room including new timber flooring and
new paint work, new seating and new community notice boards.
Most importantly, Chiltern Railways will be automating the booking
hall and waiting room doors to open via sensor and the toilet facilities
will be enabled with disabled facilities for easy use by disabled
passengers.
Chiltern Railways Managing Director Cath Proctor said: "We value
our customers needs and requirements and are focused on delivering
these to them. We listen to our passengers and what we are hearing
is that there is a need for an improvement of station facilities at
Gerrards Cross, so we are making this happen. Gerrards Cross can expect
new ticket gates for their security and a revitalised station that
will bring a sense of history and achievement for passengers to enjoy.
A historic series of photographs will be on display outlining the
last 100 years of Gerrards Cross station and the area surrounding
it. "Our objective is have Gerrards Cross residents proud of
their local station which we believe we will achieve by making this
investment," Ms Proctor said.
Other components of the station enhancement include new Gerrards Cross
station signage, new platform lines, a relocation and replacement
of the cycle shelter, replacement of the old clock, a mural painting
in the booking hall and the removal of the old fence from the car
park entrance.
Chiltern Railways will also be creating a beautiful landscaped garden
throughout the station for all passengers' enjoyment.
For most of the week Chiltern Railways runs at least 3 trains an hour
between Gerrards Cross and London. They also run at least 1 train
an hour between Gerrards Cross and Birmingham with passengers sometimes
changing at High Wycombe.
Following the commencement of the Gerrards Cross station enhancement,
Chiltern Railways will be turning their attention to the nearby Beaconsfield
station.
