Largin Viaduct in Cornwall returns to use

Rail services started running again across Largin Viaduct from the start of service on 15 November 2006, following an extensive refurbishment project. The first passenger train crossed the viaduct shortly after 05.00.

Roy Hamlin, Network Rail’s General Manager for the West Country, said: “This has been a challenging project with almost 200 engineers working around the clock to strip out the old timber decking along the entire stretch of the viaduct. “The completion of this £2 million project by Network Rail will mean smoother and quieter rides for passengers as they cross the viaduct.”

The timber decking was over 40 years old and in need of urgent replacement. In order to carry out this extensive work, the railway was closed between Liskeard and Bodmin Parkway from midnight on 10 November until 05.00 on 15 November.
