North Berwick Station to get new Virtual Ticket Office

Passengers travelling in and out of North Berwick station will soon be able to take advantage of a brand new Virtual Ticket Office facility.

Work on installing the Virtual Ticket Office (VTO) - a convenient, fully enclosed heated waiting room, began on Monday 20 November 2006 and is due to be ready for use by mid December. It will include new seating, a retail facility and dome style CCTV for additional security, raising the overall level of comfort for customers.

A second phase of work will see the installation of a ticket vending machine and flat screen Customer Information System, allowing customers a quick and easy way to purchase a ticket prior to boarding, as well as up to the minute information on their particular train.

The addition to the station is part of First ScotRail's ongoing plan to improve facilities as well as the overall journey experience for customers. The train operating company has invested £660,000 to install the VTO at North Berwick as well as four other stations in the Central belt - Airdrie, Crossmyloof, Hairmyres and Bathgate.

Peter Williams, commercial director at First ScotRail said: "This facility enhancement will provide greater comfort and added convenience for customers using the station. We are dedicated to improving the overall journey experience and are confident that this addition will help do just that."

Heather Battson, Transport Scotland's rail quality improvement manager, said: "The level of investment that has been secured through the rail franchise is delivering significant improvements for passengers. This worthwhile enhancement to be delivered in North Berwick is good news for the local community and we will continue to work closely with First ScotRail to drive up the quality of service for passengers."
