Southern to move Ewell East into 'Zone 6'

Cheaper fares will soon be a reality for Southern passengers traveling from Ewell East station. In January 2007 the station will move into zone 6 of the London Travelcard boundary.  This gives Southern the opportunity to pass on substantial savings to the local community.

One of the major savings will be on the cost of an All Zone Day Off-Peak Travelcard, which goes down from £8.20 to £6.70, a staggering 18 per cent saving.  The cost of 7 day Travelcards will also be reduced.

John Oliver, Southern’s Business Development Manager said: “Southern is delighted that its application to move Ewell East station into zone 6 has been accepted by the Department for Transport. This means that our passengers will enjoy lower fares and we will almost certainly attract more people to the railway.”

Local MP Chris Grayling said of the move: “This is very welcome news. I have been pressing for a change for some time, and many commuters locally have told me that they feel the current arrangementshave been unfair, since other areas with longer journeys intoLondon have lower fares than those from Ewell East. I am delighted that Southern has helped make this change possible."
