Virgin Trains' Crewe station has been awarded Secure Station status following dedicated teamwork with Network Rail, British Transport Police and Crime Concern. Presenting the award in a ceremony at the station on 15 September, Crewe and Nantwich MP Gwyneth Dunwoody said: "I'm feeling happy, as a secure station is the best way to attract customers. I'm thrilled that we have achieved this at Crewe and offer my heartiest congratulations to all involved." Security improvements made at the station include installation of Closed Circuit Television and emergency help points, and comprehensive training of all station staff who were able to demonstrate excellent practices in the fight against crime. Secure Station accreditation followed evidence produced of reduced crime rates and an independent survey which showed that passengers feel safe while using the station. Virgin Trains Head of Security Paula Durrans said: "We are delighted to have achieved the Secure Station award in the best interests of our customers and staff. We shall continue to work closely with the Police and Network Rail to ensure a safe and secure travelling environment." |
