Next batch of DRS Class 66s on the way to the UK soon

The production of Class 66 locomotives at the EMD plant in London, Ontario, Canada is progressing well. The seven remaining locos of order 20058700 for DRS Nos. 66414 - 66420 are now complete and all have been tested on site. The schedule is for all 7 to be collected by the GEXR from the London plant on 1 October and ship them to the Port of Halifax via Toronto. Arrival in the UK at Newport will be around 20 October.

The next batch of Class 66s to come off the production line will be for five locos for GBRf Nos. 66723 to 66727 (order no. 20058765, as of 20 September all locos were on the shop floor under assembly. Following the completion of these, attention will turn to order No. 20068725 for 10 locos for Mainland Europe, these are tier 2 modified locos. Other Class 66s to follow through the production process are 16 for Freightliner under order 20068772 and of course the 20 locos 'officially ordered' foe EWS to order 20068775 which are denied by the company.

It has been suggested in some quarters that a further 10 Class 66/4s for DRS are to be ordered from EMD, however this has yet to be confirmed by EMD, however an option in the original contract does still exist.
