Freightliner launch operations in Poland

Freightliner Poland Ltd (FPL) commenced their first commercial contract on 1 September 2007, operating services to Kozienice Power Station.

Freightliner Group Ltd established the Polish subsidiary in 2005, and on 25 May 2007, FPL signed track access agreements with PKP – PLK (Polish State Railways – Polish Railway Lines), receiving access to all standard gauge public access railway routes.

Freightliner Group is well prepared to begin operations in Poland - in 2006 they invested in brand new rolling stock, including 7 Class 66 locomotives and 432 specifically designed wagons. This investment represents the first investment in brand new operating equipment in Poland for over 15 years, and is the largest single investment into Poland by a private operator.

Adam Cunliffe, Business Development Director, Freightliner Group Ltd commented; “The success Freightliner has experienced in the UK has led us to transfer our expertise outside the UK. We are one of the first private freight companies in Poland to use Class 66 locos, and the new wagons are specifically designed to carry coal or aggregates, and the whole train can carry up to 17% more payload than any other Polish train.”

Rafal Milczarski, Managing Director, FPL, added;“We are extremely proud to start operating services for a customer of strategic importance for the Polish economy – Elektrownia Kozienice. We have worked very hard to introduce Freightliner standards into Poland. Without acquisition of an existing railway operator, we have built up a motivated and flexible team, offering Poland a unique and devoted customer service. We very much hope that our efforts will be well received by our customers”
